Ear Health & Hearing Screening

Introducing Our Ear Health and Hearing School/Preschool Service

At Young Minds Thrive, we're committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. That's why we're proud to offer our specialised Ear Health and Hearing School Service, designed to promote optimal hearing health and well-being for students aged 4 to 18 years. We offer this service to any preschool/school between Kempsey and Coffs Harbour.

Why Hearing Health Matters:

Healthy hearing is fundamental to a child's overall well-being and academic success. Clear auditory input is essential for language development, communication skills, and social interaction, all of which are critical aspects of a child's educational journey.

Unfortunately, undetected hearing loss can significantly impact a child's ability to thrive in the classroom. Studies have shown that up to 30% of children in our local area may experience undetected hearing loss, often leading to challenges in academic performance, social integration, and emotional well-being.

By addressing hearing health early on, we can mitigate these challenges and provide children with the support they need to succeed. Early intervention and appropriate management of hearing issues can make a profound difference in a child's educational outcomes and overall quality of life.

What We Offer:

  • Full School Hearing Screening: Our experienced team conducts comprehensive hearing screenings for students, ensuring early detection of any potential hearing issues that may impact their learning and development.

  • Personalised Follow-Up: For children who do not pass their hearing test, our dedicated Health Coordinator reaches out directly to parents. They provide personalised advice on maintaining healthy ear and hearing habits, outline follow-up requirements, and offer referrals to our network of community partners.

  • Specialist Referrals: Should further assessment or intervention be necessary, our team facilitates referrals to specialist services for children identified with hearing loss, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive.

  • Complementary Follow-Up Appointments: All children who participate in our school screening program are eligible for complementary follow-up appointments at our Macksville community clinic, ensuring continuity of care and ongoing support.

What Schools Can Expect:

  • Comprehensive Reports: Schools receive detailed reports of hearing screening results for all participating students, along with follow-up pathways and referrals if required.

  • Parental Communication: Parents receive reports within 48 hours of screening, ensuring timely access to information about their child's hearing health. For children with referred results, parents are contacted within 24 hours to discuss next steps.

At Young Minds Thrive, we believe that every child deserves the chance to learn and grow to their fullest potential.

Join us in promoting healthy hearing habits and empowering the futures of our students.

This service can be claimed under NDIS funding.

  • Additional Screening for Key Indications of Autism: As part of our developmental assessments for children, we can offer additional screening to identify key indications of autism. This screening helps us evaluate specific behaviours and developmental patterns, indicating whether further investigation and review for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is indicated.

  • Reports and Recommendations: Following assessments and screenings, we provide detailed reports that recommend intervention or support pathways for your child. These reports highlight your child's areas of strength as well as areas for growth, offering valuable insights to guide their development journey.
